History

We opened our doors over 27 years ago. Back then, we were Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies.

In those early years, we served approximately 500 low-income families per year through our maternal-child health hotline.

Today, we run 4 hotlines, 2 coalitions and 2 really incredible websites: one for families and one for teens. We do this for 1 reason: to build healthy families and healthy communities.

This year, we’re on pace to serve approximately 300,000 families. That’s a 600% increase in individuals served from 27 years ago. That’s not bad and it’s all possible thanks to our amazing staff, board, partners and supporters.

We have continually adapted our offerings to meet community needs. Over the years, those needs have changed as the economy has changed. For instance:

  • Between 2004 and 2007, we developed the ground-breaking website, ParentHelp123.org. With funding from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and other visionary funders, we were able to create a place on-line where parents could easily find what they needed to take care of their family—something that is much easier said than done.
  • Since 1994, we have taken on stewardship of 5 statewide coalitions: Immunization Action Coalition of WA (1994), Breastfeeding Coalition of WA (1996), Hepatitis B Coalition of WA (2002-2013), WA Coalition on Medicaid Outreach (2011) and, most recently, the Anti-Hunger & Nutrition Coalition (2012-2014).
  • In 2006, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies became WithinReach, a name that reflects our commitment to bringing essential health and nutrition resources within reach for all families and all family members.

We’re proud of our first 27 years and looking forward to many more. Find out how you can be a part of it!
