World Breastfeeding Week

World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7, 2016

The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) has announced that this year’s World Breastfeeding Week theme is “Breastfeeding: A Key to Sustainable Development.”

This year’s theme supports the United Nations’ seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. In September 2015, United Nations leaders created these goals with the desire to end poverty and foster an equitable and sustainable future for coming generations. The 2016 World Breastfeeding Week theme establishes breastfeeding as a vital piece in achieving the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. Breastfeeding has an important role to play in protecting our environment, creating food security, promoting health and well-being, and empowering women.
