Community Outreach

The Community Outreach team began in January of 2009 with support from the United Way of King County. The team was created in response to the low rates of enrollment in the Basic Food program in King County. Growing need in the community, coupled with lack of knowledge about available resources, were the driving forces behind creating a team that provides in-person referral, eligibility screening, and application assistance.

The Community Outreach team partners with service providers in the community, including food banks, job training centers, libraries, and free tax prep sites to connect with families where they are, and get them connected to programs that will help.

As part of the partnership with the United Way of King County, WithinReach also helps to coordinate the Bridge to Basics program. Since October 2009, Community Outreach team staff supervise and train Bridge to Basics volunteers, to connect with even more families in need. In addition to Basic Food assistance, the Bridge to Basics program provides information and assistance for Apple Health for Kids, Pregnancy Medical, WIC, utility assistance (including LIHEAP), job training resources, low-cost medical clinics, and much more.
